"Oh, Dear, aren't they beautiful?" Esmerelda Dianison asked her husband, Tayro, as she held the twin girls in her lap.
"Hummmph..." was his response. Obviously, he didn't like them.
Esmerelda looked out of the window at the local hospital in Jamo, a small town on the small planet, Josira, trying to hide her hurt feelings. She looked at her husband hopefully and said, "We aren't getting anywhere by arguing. Besides, didn't you say you wanted children?"
"Yes, I did. But now I wish I hadn't," he snapped. His words stung.
Esmerelda could feel anger starting to boil up inside of her. She was starting to get irritated with him. After all, it had been his idea to have children. "Can't we work this out?" She pleaded quietly.
"No, we can't work this out! You know what? I'm starting to get irritated with you! You always say: 'Can't we work things out? Can't we work things out?' Sometimes I wonder why I even married you! I know why now. It was because of the money and because of the good looks. You looked so exciting. I never even imagined you could be this boring!" He screamed at her, his voice filled with hatred.
She could feel her anger now, surging through her like the blood in her veins. She knew she was going to yell. Any second now, she was going to yell out her real feelings toward him. That she had never loved him. "I was always wondering why I married you, too!" She yelled as loud as she could. "Do you want to know why?! Because I was lonely! Then you came along and asked me to marry you! Can you imagine? You asked me! And I said yes. I can't believe I could've been so stupid!" She paused to take a breath. Then she said more calmly: "I want a divorce. As soon as possible. We've been arguing over little things for a long time now. I think we need a divorce."
"Okey, but you keep the brats!"
"I don't know if they have some kind of law...."
"I don't care about the stupid law!" He screamed again. The twins began to cry. Softly at first, then louder as the argument continued. Esmerelda tried to calm them, but they wouldn't stop crying. Then a nurse came in, took the babies and told them to be quiet.
The next day came, and Esmerelda was let out of the hospital. Tayro took Esmerelda and the babies home. They called a baby-sitter and went to town to see about getting divorced as soon as possible.
"There's the building. Let's go"
They went inside and were greeted by a gust of cool air. They followed a long hallway to the main desk.
"We want to get divorced," Tayro said.
The lady behind the desk, a short, Korean lady with glasses said, "Right this way, please."
They followed her to a small room. There was a chair in the back of the room, and a table
in the corner. There was another room, from which came an old man. He carried a piece of paper,
set it on the table and went over to the chair to sit down. "Grreetings, my friends. Sit down,
please." He spoke with a heavy Arabian accent. He pointed to the floor. The walked over and sat
down. "I need you to tell me the story of your wedding."
After they had told him the whole thing, they saw that he had written it down. He then took a black marker and crossed everything out. First in an X and then line after line by itself. After he had done that, he asked, "Do you have children?"
"Yes," Esmerelda said.
"Alright. Therre is the small matter of the law. But firrst, , how many arre therre?"
"Two," she replied.
"Alrright, then. Each of you gets a child. No visitations, and no trrading childrren!"
I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel nervously as I waited for the red light to change to green. I looked at my watch. Great. Late on the day of my interview for my new job as an actress. That certainly wouldn't make a good impression. Finally, the traffic light turned yellow, then green. I honked at the car in front of me, which still wasn't moving. I swerved to the side, passing the slowpoke. I glanced at my watch again. I pulled into the parking lot of the Actor's Agency a few minutes later. Picking up my purse, I went into the building quickly. The front desk was in a room down a narrow hallway. As I walked down the hall, I popped a breath mint into my mouth and bit it in half. Then I bit the halves in half and started chewing. I had finished the mint when a tall man with longish black hair and deep blue eyes walked over to where I had sat down.
"Are you Jennice Carino?" He asked. His voice was low and it sounded sort of like ocean waves. A bit scratchy, but very melodic. I swallowed hard, trying to figure out what to do if I couldn't speak.
"Y-yess," I finally managed to choke out.
"Good, Follow me, please."
I followed him into another room. This one was filled with cameras and spotlights. They're going to film me! I suddenly realized. They are going to actually film me! Wait a minute. I can't get stage-fright now! If I want to be an actress, I can't get stage-fright. I sat down in the chair the man was pointing to. I pushed up my glasses nervously, wondering what to do. "So, what do I have to do?" I asked finally.
"Here, Read that into the camera. You have to act like you're acting!" He laughed. His laugh differed from his voice. It was clear and genuine.
"Okay," I said as I took the script from him. It was for a dog food commercial. I laughed out loud. Then I started reading:
"Roses are red,
Dog food is brown,
Olison Dog food is right for your hound!"
Have you ever wondered if the food you give your dog is the right kind? Well, have we got news for you! Olison Dogfood is definitely right! It's very healthy for your dog, and it makes their fur soft and shiny. Don't delay, buy today! Olison Dogfood!"
He turned off the camera, and as soon as he did, we both burst out laughing.
"Was that it? No interview?" I was disappointed. But then, to my surprise, he said: "NO, there's more. Come on, I"ll buy you a drink."
"All right, Mr. ---?"
"Just call me Narussi."
"Okay."
"Our first movie will be made on the planet Jesira. Please be at the spaceport at ten tomorrow morning," the manager called to everyone in the studio.
The movie they were going to shoot was called 'If You're Tarzan, Who Am I?' So we needed a jungle look. Jesira was perfect for it, the others had said. I din't know of a planet called Jesira, but it sounded familiar...
As we all piled into the spaceship, Narussi grabbed my arm, and I spun around. "Oh, it's only you," I said, relieved.
"Who did you expect? Some weird psycho-killer?" He asked jokingly.
"Well, no, not really..."
"Good," he said as he pulled me into the spaceshuttle.
We landed on the small planet about two hours later. The manager yelled out directions as everyone except for the actors began working. Narussi sat down on the ground of the beautiful forest we had landed in and leaned against the trunk of a tree.
"It's really nice here," I said, sitting down beside him, and looking at the sky thoughtfully. "Hey, what part are you playing?"
"None. I'm just along for the ride."
"Oh, yeah. You're father's the manager, right?"
"Yeah, I get to go with him whenever he shoots a movie somewhere."
"Cool," I said, still staring into the blue sky.
"Hey! Look!" Narussi suddenly cried. "What's that?"
"It looks like a spaceship to me ... Oh, no! It's going to crash!"
We watches as the shuttle flew toward the ground, picking up speed every second. I was watching the spaceship so intently that I didn't see the girl jumping out of the emergency doorjust as the shuttle exploded.
"Let's go see if anyone's hurt," Narussi suggested. "I hope no one is hurt."
"Okay, let's go," I said as we hurried toward the clearning where it had landed... or... er... crashed. When we were almost there, we ran into a mirror. Or so I thought.
As Narussi and I neared the mirror, I said, "A mirror? In the middle of the forest? That doesn't make any sense." To my surprise, as I spoke and my reflections mouth moved with mine, I heard two voices! And, .... wasn't Narussi with me? The mirror showed a Criqu Bird instead! Slowly, I turned around to see Narussi. I reached out to touch the mirror, but instead, I touched the warm shoulder of a real, living and breathing girl!!!
After the little run-in with my reflection, I thought nothing could be surprising anymore. I was wrong.
"So, why are you here, in Jesira?" The girl asked me.
"I don't mean to brag or anything," I started. "But we're doing a movie here. It's called, 'If You're Tarzan, Who am I?'... Where were you off to before you crashed?" I asked as we walked the short way to our camp. There was a very long pause. We were already at camp when she finally answered.
"I was on my way to Niro to solve a difficult case. I'm a detective." She said this, and everyone stopped working and stared at us. I took this opportunity to introduce her.
"Everyone, this is... ummm, what's your name?" I asked, turning toward her.
"Jessamine Flacin," she replied quickly.
"I'm Jennice Carino," I said to her. Then, turning to the others, I said, "This is Jessamyn Flacin. She's s detective."
"An independent detective," she corrected loudly.
The more I got to know Jessamyn, the more I liked her. Despite the amazing coincidence with our looks, we were almost completely different from each other. Except that we both had almost the same hobbies. The differences? There were tons!
So, you see, we're like the old saying - Opposites attract!
Jessamyn and I had known each other for about two weeks, and I liked her very much. I loved her like a sister, and it was almost possible that we were actually sisters.
One day, after I was done with work, we decided to take a walk in the woods. Jessamyn knew a lot about trees and nature. She said there were some beautiful (and big) Kandaloak trees on that planet.
As we walked I said, "You know, I was wondering, what if we are sister? It could be possible. I mean, how many people look exactly the same? Without being twins?"
That seemed to catch her off-guard, because she didn't answer right away. But then she said, "You may be right, but wouldn't we have had the same last name? I mean, twins are usually sisters, right?"
"Yeah, but what if our parents got divorced? And didn't tell us? And got married again?"
"They showed me my birth certificate."
"So? What if they forged it?"
"I don't know."
"Why don't we go for a walk again?" I asked Jessamyn. It was about a week after our strange conversation. "We didn't find the tree you were talking about the other day."
"Okay, lets go."
"Tell me about the tree," I said, trying not to mention our parents or the word sisters.
"The Kadaloak Tree is a very big tree, it's as big as a house, as big as a mansion. It has chambers inside, and sometimes, people who know the tree well live in it."
As she said this, I saw a tree, just like the one she had described to me. It was very big, and it looked like a giant tree house!
"There it is!" She cried. "My beautiful tree! Come on, Jennice! Lets go inside."
I followed her into the tree, ducking whenever we went through one of the low doorways.
"We'll go exploring. I'll go this way," She told me, pointing to a dark room. "And you go that way," This time, she pointed to a hallway.
"We'll meet back here in... do you have a watch?"
"Yeah, but isn't it a little too dark to see the watch?"
"No, it's not. We'll meet here in an hour, okay?"
"Okay. An hour."
I looked at my watch. A little after six. I looked up at the place where Jessamyn had been standing and found nothing but air and dust. I walked toward the dark hallway and felt aruond on the wall. I didn't know whjy, but for some reason, I expected to find a light switch there. But I only felt the smooth wood of the tree under my fingers. Disappointed, I walked toward a door on the right side of the hall. When I was inside, I saw that there was a trap door in the far right corner of the room. I decided to check it out.
When I got down into the trap door, I saw a light coming from a room down a long
hallway (groan). I went toward it slowly, and as I got closer, I could hear someone playing some
kind of video game. I stopped in front of the door, hesitated, but then decided to knock.
The person inside must be pretty young, I thought as I knocked on the door.
"Who's there?!" A guy's voice demanded.
"Ahh... well, I... you see....," I stammered as he opened the door. I gasped, then coughed as a cover-up. "Ummm, .... hi," I said, trying not to stare at the good-looking guy who had just opened the door.
"Hi. So, why are you here?" He sounded irritated.
"Ummm... well my best friend and I were exploring the Kada-what's it called?"
His expression softened. "Kadaloak," he said, motioning for me to come in.
I smiled, mumbled "thanks," and went in. The room was surprisingly clean.
"I'm Tile. What's your name?"
"Jennice," I said, still staring.
"Well, ummm.., can I get you anything? Something to drink, maybe?"
"No, thank you."
Tile sat down in front of a small TV in the room. "Do you live here?" I asked curiously.
"Yeah. I"ve lived here for as long as I can remember. Where do you live?"
"I live on planet earth. I'm here on business."
"Wow! Earth?" He seemed very amazed to hear that. I was surprised ~ I thought everybody had been to earth at least once. "What kind of business?" He asked after looking at me with wide eyes and a huge grin.
"Well, I, ... uh, I'm an a-actress," I stammered.
"Great! What are you acting out?"
"Well, it's a movie. It's called 'If You're Tarzan, Who Am I?'"
"Wow..."
I looked at my watch, and was surprised to find that it was already seven! "Oh, no. I have to go now. I was supposed to meet my friend at seven!"
"I'll go with you... I want to meet your friend."
"Okay, Let's go."
"Sorry I'm late," I told Jessamyn as I raced into the hall. "But, because of my lateness, I brought a present for you." I turned toward the hall where I had told Tile to wait. "Tile! You can come out now!"
"Well?" Jessamyn asked after waiting patiently for five whole minutes.
"I don't get it." He didn't come!
"Well, after you're over your imaginary friend, can we please leave?"
"He's not imaginary!" I insisted.
"No, he's not," She said sarcastically.
"Let's go." I grumbled.
"But, but....!" I protested. We were filming the first part of the movie, and I was playing a small part in the movie. They said I was going to have a major part!
"No buts. You're doing this part, and that's final!" The manager told me.
"But they told me that..."
"They tell everyone that. Now, please do this. Please?"
"Oh..." I groaned. It wasn't fair! The people at the try-outs had told me that I would get a big part, and I hadn't gotten one....
"Think about it. And see me in my office when you have, okay?" He was very understanding, but I wanted to slap him for that. It wasn't fair! I slowly walked to my trailer, and then decided to go to the Kadaloak tree. After I'd gotten Jessamyn, of course.
"Let's go," she said when I arrived about ten minutes later. We walked towards the tree, and I thought about Tile. I was still upset about what had happened. He just disappeared!
"I brought a flashlight this time," Jessamyn told me, pulling out a long, tube-shaped object.
"That's a flashlight?" I asked, taking it from her and examining it carefully.
"Yes, silly! What else is it supposed to be?" She burst out laughing.
"But how do you turn it on?"
"Look," she took it from me and flipped a small switch on the bottom of it.
"Okay, I get it."
When we got to the tree, I had the strangest feeling that there was something different about it.
"We'll stay together this time, okay?" I said, walking into the tree behind Jessamyn. "I don't have a flashlight," I continued, explaining why I wanted to stay with her, as if it mattered.
As we walked, I got a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. "Something's not right," I said out loud, not really intending for Jessamyn to hear it.
"What do you mean?" She asked me after a few seconds. I wasn't expecting it, so I asked her, "about what?"
"About something not being right?"
"Oh! Well, I just have this feeling ---" I was cut off by a loud scream.
"What was that?!" I asked Jessamyn. The light had gone out, so I was totally blind for a few seconds. "Jess?" I asked, feeling not a little, but very scared.
"Ohhh,"
As I heard that, I jumped. It took me a while to figure out that it was Jessamyn! She had fallen into a kind of booby trap!
"Jess? Is that you?" I asked, just making sure. No answer, "Jess? This isn't funny....."
Then I remembered Tile. "Jess," I said to her. "If it's you, then just stay here. I'll get some help!" I ran towards the hallway where I had started exploring the first time we had been there, and quickly found the trap door in one of the many rooms. I went in it, ran down the hall, nearly tripped over my own feet while I was running, but I made it to Tile's room without killing myself on the way. "Tile!" I shouted frantically, pounding on the door. "Tile! Open up!"
I was about to knock again when he opened the door, wearing only boxers. He seemed to be very tired. But as he saw who was at the door, his eyes shot all the way open, and his face turned a bright shade of scarlet.
"Uhhh, hi." He said sheepishly, smiling a weak half-smile.
"Come on!" I said, pulling him out into the hallway. "My friend is in trouble! We've got to save her!"
"But.... wait a minute!" He protested. I ignored him. As I pulled him toward the trap, he said, "Oh, no...."
"What?"
"That's a trap I set earlier to keep out any burglars while I'm sleeping."
"Well, you didn't catch a burglar, you caught Jessamyn!"
As we neared the trap, I saw the flashlight rolling on the hard wood floor of the tree. I walked over to it, picked it up and turned it on. As I shone it down onto the floor, I saw that the trap was just a trap door with the hinges missing. But it had worked. I shone the light down into the trap door, and gasped as I saw Jessamyn. Her head was turned sideways, and her body twisted in an unnatural looking way.
"On, no," I said, As I started to think about jumping down to check for a pulse, Tile came towards me and said, "don't even think about it."
I watched fearfully as he jumped down into the trap door.
"Is she okay? Does she have a pluse?" I asked frantically, as he checked on her.
"I don't feel a pulse," Tile said, not completely comprehending what exactly he had done.
"That's cause you're doing it wrong!" I said impatiently. "Can you lift her up here so I can check?" I said this more like a command, not a question.
As he lifted her up, I saw her open her eyes and then close them again. "Jessamyn!" I said.
"Ohh," she moaned.
She opened her eyes again, this time keeping them open. But when she saw Tile, she screamed! I rushed to her side, not knowing what to do, and asked her why she had screamed. He was still thinking about why she had been so shocked when she said, "Why is he only wearing boxers?" This made him blush furiously, making me laugh.
"I'd better go... uh... change." He blushed again, and Jessamyn and I both laughed.
"Wait!" Jessamyn said suddenly. "What's your name?" She asked him.
"Tile," he answered. She smiled at him. "I'm Jessamyn," she said.
After he'd gone to change, I asked Jessamyn, "Jess, what's up with you and Tile?"
"What do you mean?" she asked, playing dumb.
"You like him, don't you?" she blushed furiously. "I kenw it!" I said, not at all pleased with the thought, Why does she like the guy that I like? I thought. No, I'm not going to get jealous. That's stupid. I must've looked upset, because she asked, "Waht's wrong, Jen?" I just shook my head.
We walked to the camp in an uncomforatble silence. I was kind of upset. Just in case you hadn't noticed. I cheered up right away, thought, when I saw Narussi coming towards us.
"Hi!" I said cheerfully.
"Hi, Jen! Hi, Jess! What's up?"
"The sky," we both said at the same time. We all burst out laughing. "That is so old," I said after we'd finished. "Yeah, and that's why you said it, right, Jen?" Narussi asked sarcastically. I frowned at him, looking him right in the eyes. I knew I was going to start crying any minute. I ran the rest of the way to the camp site, them calling after me the whole time. As I ran to my campter, I thought, They'll be sorry. I'll get my revenge! The tears started flowing more because of anger now than sadness. Narussi obviously doesn't care much, and Tile isn't at all aware of anything.
I dropped down on my bed and cried into my pillow. There was a knock on my door just then. "Who is it?" I asked, trying my best to wipe away my tears. "It's me," Jessamyn's voice said from the door.
"Go away," I said with as much acid as I could. "I don't want talk to you or to anyone else!" jessamyn tried to open the door, but I had locked it when I came in.
"Come on, Jen! Open the door!" She shouted. "No!" I screamed back at her. She started pounding on the door. Then, Narussi shouted, "Jennice! What's wrong?"
"As if you didn't know already," I muttered under my breath. "Leave me alone!" I shouted toward the door.
They seemed to be leaving, because after that I didn't hear anything any more. Good. I hope that... No! I'm not going to think that stuff about them! They're supposed to be my friends! But I don't know...
The next day, I went to the Kadaloak tree, Just because. No special reason at all. I guess maybe I wanted to e alone. As I walked in, though, I remembered that Tile lived there. Oh, no, I thought, making a disgusted face. I hope he's not here or something. Maybe he's out with Jessamyn. I was really in a bad mood and didn't really want to deal with anyone at that moment.
As I walked down the hall, my flashlight (well, actually Jessamyn's flashlight) stopped on a door. A rather strange looking kind of door. It wasn't at all like any of the other doors in the tree. While the others just looked plain and normal, like any other door you would find on earth, this one had various decorations and carvings on it. I wonder what's inside? But as I erached out to open the door by its handle shaped like a dragon's head, I heard someone cough behind me. I hid quickly in the shadows around the door. Then I heard voices. Jessamyn's and Tile's voices. They walked past the doorway, not seeing me.
Figures, I thought. I returned my gaze to the door, reaching out to open it once again. As I
touched the handle, it began to glow. I slowly turned the knob, not knowing what awaited me on
the other side.
I opened the door, and walked into the small, candle lit room. Wow, I thought as I looked around. There were candles everywhere, on shelves built into the wall, on little tables in various places around the room, and there was one big candle on a table in the middle of the room. There was only one thing that didn't seem quite right: all the candles were black. It was very strange, in my opinion. Then I saw the drawers on the bottom of all the tables. My hands were just itching to open them all and see what was inside. So I did.
As I opened the drawer on the table in the middle of the room, something in the corner of the room caught my eye. There was a piece of paper sticking out of the drawer of the table in the far right corner of the room. I walked toward it with curiosity. I took the piece of paper out of the drawer and inspected it carefully. It was a birth certificate. And it had her firsty name on it. But not her last name. Instead of Carino, the last name was Dianisson.
I opened the drawer all the way and found another birth certificate. Oh, my goodness! It had Jessamyn Dianisson written on it!
Just then, the door opened. I screamed as Tile walked in. He jumped. He was obviously not expecting me to be there.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him "Maybe I should ask you the same thing?" He replied. I blushed. "I was... well, I was just curious."
I'm here to check on you."
"You're kidding." I was stunned.
"No. I'm here to check on you."
"How did you know I was here?" I could barely get those words out.
"I, um, I saw you earlier." He smiled, blushing.
"Oh. Well, um... I'd better et going now," I smiled, starting towards the door.
"Ah, ah, ah, no, I don't think so," he said grabbing my arm. I sighed. "Okay, okay, I'll tell you why I aw here."
"Well?" He looked at me expectantly.
"I just came here to be alone, and then I saw this room and I was curious!" I finally yelled
at him. "Now, could you please leave me alone?" I stormed out of the room, and ran into
Jessamyn right outside the door. I pushed past her and ran to my trailor.
Oh boy, oh boy, I thought, carefully studying the certificates. Everything was the same on mine, except the last name. But on Jessamyn's, the date was almost ten years after mine. Strange.
There was a knock on the door, and then Jessamyn came in. I tried to hide the certificates, but she saw them. "Hey! What is that?" She demanded. She grabbed the certificates and looked at them with a strange expression on her face. "Oh, my Lord" She said in a monotone. "Oh, my Lord," she repeated. "What the heck is this?" She looked at me suspiciously. "Did you make these? Did you make these so I would think we're twins or something?" She looked at me accusingly.
"Wait!" I said. "Didn't you see the dates? You're ten years older than I am! You said you were 14! I'm 14! You're really 24!" She grabbed my arm. "Will you shut up? No one's supposed to know!" She covered my mouth and pulled my hands behind my back. "What are you doing?" I demanded, but she couldn't understand me because her hand muffled my words. Just then, Narussi came in. "What are you doing?" He asked, puzzled. She let go of me and jumped on Narussi. As she tackled him, I ran. But she saw and tripped me. I fell, scraping my knees and my hands. After awhile, Jessamyn burst out laughing.
"What the heck do you think is so funny?" I screamed. "You're crazy!" With that I ran out of the trailor and into the woods, forgetting the certificates.
I ran to the Kadaloak tree. I seemed to be a place I went to a lot lately. I decided to visit Tile.
"Huh?" He said as he opened the door. He rubbed his eyes sleepily. "Oh! It's you! Hi!" Is he nervous, or what? "Can I come in?" I asked, starting to walk into his little room. "Uh, actually, you can't. Not right now, okay?" What is wrong with him? "Why not?" He looked over his shoulder into his room. "I'm kind of, um, busy." He's hiding something... but what? "What are you doing?" I asked, trying to look past him into the room. "Um, I'm, uh, painting! Yeah, that's it. I'm painting." He doesnt' sound ver convincing...
"Are you okay?" I asked him curiously, still trying to see into his room. Well, it's a mess. I can see that much. "Uh, yeah, I .... guess. Yeah." He sure is acting strange. "Okay, well, then... I'd better go, huh?"
"Uh, yeah, I guess. Bye." with that, he slammed the door in my face. Sheesh! Can you be any ruder? I thought.
With no where else to go, I went back downt he hall to the trap door. As I climbed up, I saw a shoe, then a leg and then the rest of .... tile! How can that be? Oh, my Lord, am I nutty now, or what? "Tile! I thought you were over there?" I pointed toward his room. He looked at me questioningly, but didn't say anything. "Are you okay?" I asked him again. He just nodded. Again, he said nothing. I was interrupted by a shout from the door of the room that the trap door was in.
"Who are you talking to, Jen?" Narussi asked me with a strange expression on his face. I looked at where Tile had stood. Nothing.
"Uh,... no one," I replied, blushing a deep shade of red, I was sure. He smiled mockingly. I gave him a dirty look. I brushed past him toward the door, and left the Kadaloak a fwe seconds later. I went back to my trailor, forgetting about what had happened earlier.
I nearly screamed when I saw the trailor. There was nothing! Everything looked like it was before the fight! Even the cretificates were there! I must e losing it! I thought.
I woke up, breathing hard. "Oh, my gosh. That was bad." I got up and started pacing around the room.
Then I started walking to the Kadaloak. I stopped when I heard someone cough behind me. I turned around and saw Narussi standing there, smiling at me. Is he mocking me? I asked myself. Am I getting paranoid? I then asked myself. No, I decided. Oh, no! Now I'm even answering my own questions! This is bad. "Hi," I said, smiling back at him. "Hi. Where're you going?" He asked me. He seemed unusually pushy. "Why? Who wants to know?" I asked, not really wanting to tell him. I was still king ofupset with him, so I just turned back around and continuted toward the Kadaloak.
"Hey!" He called after me, "Why so cold all of a sudden?" I ignored him and kept walking. He caught up with me and grabbed my arm. He spun me around. "What the heck is wrong with you?" He asked me. "You should know!" I screamed at him. "What? I don't get it. What did I do?" He looked at me with a puzzled expression. He ran his fingers through his hair and ocntinued. "Look, Jennice, I know what you thing, It's about me and Jessamyn, is'nt it?" I nodded. "There is nothing going on between us. We're just friends, you hear me? Just friends." He looked me in the eyes. "I figured out a long time ago that you liked me. I figured it out that day when you were so jumpy. The day we got into the shuttle? Remember?" I nodded again. He took me in his arms, and at that moment I realized I really liked him. Really, really liked him. Tile wasn't the one for me. I knew that now.
"Let's go to the camp site now, okay?" I just nodded again.
We got there anbd went to my trailor. We found several things there. Let's just call them a few surprises.
"Hey!" I looked around, finding everything messed up. As in the pillows from the couch were scattered on the floor, all her CDs were out of their cases and lying all over the floor. The contents of her desk were also on the floor and all the pages of the stript for their movie were all out of order and scattered on her desk.
"What the heck happened here?" He gave me a questioning look. I just shrugged. I walked over to my desk, becaue I saw a piece of paper sticking out of the desk drawer. Just then, I had a strange sense of deja vu... because of my dream, I suppose. I took the sheets of paper out of the drawer and looked at them. The certificates! But these weren't as strange. They were almost exactly the same, except fo rthe name and the time of day.
There had been another thing wrong with this picture. I looked outside the window. All the rest of the campters were gone! "Where did everyone go?" I asked Narussi. He shrugged and walked over to me. Then, he took my hands and hend them behind my back. That's when I knew that something wasn't right. I felt him put hand cuffs on my hands. "What's this?" I demanded. "Why the heck are you doing this?" He took me out to a hellicopter. He dragged me inside and sat me down on one of the scats. I found that Jessamyn was also there, in hand cuffs, "What's going on?" I demanded. This was crazy!"
"This is your ride home," Narussi said. "You're coming to stay with us for awhile>"
"What do you mean?" I asked him questioningly, "What's going on?" I asked again, turning to Jessamyn. She just shrugged. I turned back to Narussi. "What is going on? Tell me!"
"Well, my dear, it's simple. You know too much about us, so we're going to give you this little potion that'll make you forget. Then you can go back to playing the happy little sisters."
"I still don't get what you're saying. How do we know too much? To much of what?"
"Well, since you are all playing stupid, we'll explain it to you," Narussi said. "See, my father has been in the movie business for a long time. But he dind't have enough money to hire a writer for the scripts and playa. So, he took other people's work and made it into his own. And then he made his movies out of that. Then, of course, we kind of got a little carried away with all of that and....,"
"No!" I screamed. "What's is happening to you, Narussi? Where is the Narussi from just a few hours ago? Where's the Narussi that interviewed me for the job?" I started crying. "Where?" He looked at me for a minute, and then said, "I'm sorry, Jen. So sorry..." He sat down with his head in his hands.
"Narussi!" His father shouted at him. "Don't get a soft heart now! Get over here and help us!"
The hellicopter landed and we all got out. I said, "This isn't over yet! You'll see. We're going to...,"
"Nothing! Shut up!" they grabbed me and Jessamyn and dragged us out of the hellicopter and into a deserted nearby building. "Let go of me!" I screamed, struggling to get out of Narussi's grasp. "Come on, Jennice! Just come on," he whispered in my ear. "Just play along," he told me. Should I trust him?
As soon as they got inside, Narussi said, "I'll take them to their rooms," and grabbed Jessaamyn as well. Then he took us to our 'rooms' which happened to be back into the hellicopter! "You know how to fly this thing?" I asked Narussi. "Well, not really," he replied, more than a little embarassed. "I can," a voice said from behind us, and Tile scrambled out from under a pile of parachutes. "Tile!" Jessamyn exclaimed. They hugged. "Well, well, well, aren't we happey to see each other," I said with a bit of sarcasm. They both blushed and smiled. "Well, then, Tile, why don't you fly us out of here?" Narussi said.
"Alrighty then. We're outta here!"
