Baby and Frog
A huge frog leaps forward in grotesque motion. A laughing girl astride its back grasps its upper jaw in both hands, her body braced against the speed of their leap. The nubbly body and taunt muscles of the frog are modeled in detail, contrasting with the smoother form of the girl.Richard Henry Recchia:
Born in Quincy, Massachusetts. He is the son of Francesco Recchia, an expert marble carver. He apprenticed in his father's shop for two years then entered the school of the Boston Museum of Fin Arts at age 16. He studied modeling and anatomy with Bela Lyon Pratt. Recchia then went to Europe for a year of study in Italy and at the Academie Julian in Paris during 1911 and 1912. He became skilled in the art of bias-relief and much of Recchia's work has consisted of portraits in relief. Some examples of his relief work are panels for the facade of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Red Cross Disaster model in the Red Cross Museum in Washington, DC.
