Beauty, enchantment, romance, history and grace --- you'll find all this at Magnolia Plantation. Its rich history and charm has transcended through the generations for all to share. Founded in 1676, Magnolia Plantation has been a landmark in Charleston, South Carolina for over 300 years.

It is still under the ownership of the original family who care for the property with great love and pride. Magnolia Plantation is unique among historical gardens.

image The current owners, Drayton and Fernanda Hastie, take exceptional personal pride in their lands. Mrs. Hastie can often be seen with her basket lovingly clipping a favored flower. Mr. Hastie not only enjoys strolls with his dogs, but also participates in the day-to-day operation of the plantation. He has a great respect and reverence for both his lands and life itself.

Mr. Hastie believes it is both a great honor and responsibility to own, maintain and preserve these wonderful lands. He has taken careful, legal steps to ensure that the natural beauty will remain for years to come. The plantation is run in an extraordinary manner. They do not seek to profit from the land; neither are they a non-profit organization. The organization is in a league of its own. They strive to bring in the public and share the beauty with them to cover the cost of maintaining and preserving the gardens. Money left after meeting annual operating expenses is divided and donated to worthy charities in the area. This giving and sharing of beauty, animal welfare, charities and wealth sets these gardens and their owners apart from others. It represents the true charm and hospitality that made the South famous.

Even without knowing the greatness and generosity of the people behind the scene, you can't help but be captivated by the plantation itself. Its beauty engulfs you from the moment you enter the gates. Come walk with us and enjoy the beauty that is Magnolia Plantation.
