For those in need - we invite you to visit Serenity

Animals! Animals! Animals!
Don't you just love animals?
We do and so do our children so we're going to try to help you learn more about them. We'll pick a new animal each issue that lives in the Southeastern USA and tell you about it! If there is a particular animal you'd like to see and read about just tell us by sending an email to chilluns@southernpride.com!
Eastern Box Turtle
It's turtle time again. Watch out for our friend, the Three Toed Southeastern Box Turtle. He'll be coming out of his winter hibernation soon crossing our roads and highways. These turtles are having a steady decline in population due to an increase in highways and new developments. They make great pets but they are better off in the wild. If you do find one, be careful to ensure that he eats within a couple of days or you must turn him loose so he won't starve. Not all will adapt to being pets. They are vegetarians. The few that we've helped enjoyed such things as a good tear of romaine lettuce, nice sun ripened bananas, fresh squash, apples and strawberries! We've always turned ours loose so that there will be more turtles for everyone to enjoy! Be careful when picking up turtles in the wild as some are snappers! OUCH!
Just for fun here are a couple of turtle links!
